Every renovation has a story.
Ours just happens to come with four children, one dog, one cat and a lot of organized chaos.
At Renovating Life UK, we do not just renovate houses.
We live in them. Break them. Rebuild them.
All while navigating the beautiful chaos of a family of six.
You might notice we use the names Superman and Lois around here. While we love sharing our renovation journey, we are also parents to four ‘Baby Sups.’ To keep their childhoods private and our family’s digital footprint secure, we have chosen to use these aliases.
It allows us to be honest about the grit and the dust while keeping our personal lives off the grid. Think of it as our secret identity, except the ‘secret’ is really just how much coffee it takes to renovate a house with six people.
Superman
The muscle and the maths behind the mission.
Most weekdays are spent behind a desk, deep in numbers and problem-solving. But the second there is a spare five minutes, he is outside mowing the lawn, painting something or pulling apart part of the house with a plan already mapped out in his head and most of the supplies already delivered.
He has no formal building background, just the kind of mind that refuses to leave a problem unsolved once it has hold of him. What usually starts with, “It’ll only take an hour,” somehow turns into five. Superman has always been the force quietly pushing our family toward the next chapter, whether that means rebuilding a house, moving countries or dreaming about whatever project comes after this one.
Lois
The vision somewhere behind the chaos.
Most days are spent moving between work, family life and a house that is constantly evolving around us. I have always been drawn to beautiful spaces, creative projects and homes that feel both practical and lived in. Around here, things need to work just as hard as they look good. If I disappear for an hour, there is a good chance I am somewhere in the garden, rearranging pots, rescuing another plant or convincing myself we definitely have space for one more hydrangea.
After more than a decade together, Superman and I have settled into a rhythm that somehow works. I bring the vision, usually in the form of a Pinterest board, an idea or a sentence beginning with “What if we just…” and he somehow finds a way to make it real. While he is busy rebuilding walls and already thinking about the next adventure before the current one is even finished, I am usually behind the scenes documenting the story and making sure the heart of the home keeps beating through all the dust and chaos.
The Baby Supes
Our four little heroes-in-training. They are the reason we chose a house with space to grow. They are growing up around dust sheets, demolition plans, and the belief that homes are built slowly, together.

Rock & Needle
Rock, our dog, provides the security, while Needle, the cat, provides the “cattitude.” They handled the move from South Africa like absolute pros.
Reporting from the dust,
xo Lois
